Distillation & Fractional Distillation Plant

Fatty acids from splitting towers contain several impurities, such as, Odour bodies, Unsaponifiable matter, Aldehydes, Water, High boiling components- un-splitted glycerides, Phosphatides, etc. These impurities are removed by adequate distillation in order to obtain a pure product with light colour and good stability.

Fatty Acid Distillation Plant

There are 2 type of Distillation:

Straight Distilltion

Make use of the differences in boiling points between the desired fatty acids and the impurities, to effect a separation of these components

Carried out under reduced pressure and lowest possible temperature to ensure product stability

Fatty acids are vaporized and then condensed, leaving the high-boiling impurities.

Fractional Distillation

Fractional distillation is a type of distillation that separates miscible liquids. This Plant process involves repeated distillation and condensation, and the mixture is usually separated into components. Separation occurs when the mixture is heated to a certain temperature at which some of the mixture begins to vaporize.
